Torfaen one of worst affected areas in Wales for Spare Room Subsidy

Torfaen one of worst affected areas in Wales for Spare Room Subsidy

A recent Welsh Government report has shown that around 1700 people in Torfaen have been affected by the Spare Room Subsidy - South Wales Argus

If you are one of them, then Torfaen Homeseeker may be able to help.

Following the implementation of Welfare Benefit changes in April 2013, tenants who claimed housing benefit and had spare bedrooms in their home, saw a reduction in their benefits.

14% cut in Housing Benefit for tenants with 1 extra bedroom room

25% cut in Housing Benefit for tenants with 2 or more extra bedrooms.

To help mitigate against the impact, Torfaen Council, in conjunction with their Housing Association Partners, introduced a new Platinum Priority Band on the Homeseeker Register.

The Platinum Band gives existing tenants of Homeseeker partner landlords, who are affected by the benefit changes and are suffering financial hardship as a result, urgent priority to move to a smaller home.

For further details about the Platinum Band, or applying to join the Homeseeker register, contact Torfaen County Borough Council Housing Services on 01495 762200 or visit the Homeseeker website.
